  • Jan. 22, 2023: Eleni received a prize for her poster presentation at the conference for undergraduate women in physics (CUWiP) that was held in Princeton! Many congratulations, Eleni!!
  • Jan. 17, 2023: Teshani and Nick did their first neutron reflectometry experiment on beamline 4B at Oak Ridge National Lab. Nick also performed his first AFM experiment at CNMS! So many firsts!!  
  • Dec. 15, 2022: Maria applied for the Barry Goldwater Scholarship, a very disctinctive honor for undergraduate students. Best of luck with your application, Maria!!
  • Dec. 7, 2022: Hadi successfully defended his Ph.D. project. He will be heading to the University of Southern California for a postdoctoral position. Congratulations, Dr. Rahmaninejad!
  • Nov. 20, 2022: Undergraduate students Maria and Eleni Ziu were accepted to the 2023 APS Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP)! They will be presenting their posters at Princeton in January! Well done, Maria and Eleni!! 
  • Oct. 7, 2022: Teshani was selected to participate in the ORNL Neutron Scattering Graduate Research Opportunity. She will be 1 of 7 students to participate in this program and will spend 4-6 months at ORNL to perform her proposed project with Dr. John Katsaras. Many congratulations, Teshani!!
  • July 29, 2022: Chi successfully defended his Master's project! Congratulations, Chi!!
  • July 27, 2022: Rana and collaborator, Kevin Edgar, received an MII ICSP grant to suppport their project titled "Synergistic Molecular Designs Towards Stable, Biocompatible Vaccine Nanocarriers"! Graduate students Teshani Kumarage and Fiorella Mazzini are excited to start working on this project!  Read the story here.

  • July 12, 2021: Prof. Ashkar was awarded an EAGER grant from NSF-MCB to investigate the effect of topography on lateral lipid organization. 
  • July 8, 2021: Sudipta's and Rana's review on lipid membrane dynamics was published in the 2021 Soft Matter Emerging Investigators Issue and was featured on the Journal Back Cover. Congratulations, Sudipta!  
  • June 1, 2021: Undergraduate student, Wally Borden, joined the lab to do hands-on experiments on lipid membranes with engineered additives. Welcome to the group, Wally! 
  • May 20, 2021: Prof. Ashkar and colleague, Prof. Sanket Deshmukh, are the recipients of a Jeffress Trust Award! They will be looking into molecular regulation of lipid rafts as a means to reverse pathology.
  • May 11, 2021: Undergraduate Julie Nguyen graduated from the Physics program at Virginia Tech and will be pursuing her passion in medicine. Congratulations, Julie! We will miss your presence in the lab.

  • July 15, 2020: Teshani did her first neutron reflectometry experiment "virtually" at SNS! Thanks to the reflectometry team for making this happen!
  • June 2, 2020: We got neutron beamtime on the liquid reflectometer at SNS to look into viral protein association with model pulmonary membranes! We are so excited about this opportunity!
